Bethesda is not generally known for making mobile apps, but these days it seems they, like other AAA studios, are focusing more on mobile. Just the other day they launched a new app for fans of the Fallout series called Fallout C.H.A.T., and just recently they launched an app called Fallout Pip-Boy. For those who may be unaware, the Pip-Boy is an arm mounted smartwatch of sorts that serves as an in-game interface for you in the Fallout series, and Fallout Pip-Boy is a companion app for the upcoming game Fallout 4 which is due out next week. While it’s likely to be more fun to use if you picked up the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition which comes with a real-life, wearable replica of a Pip-Boy unit that you stuff your smartphone into, the app still works just fine without it.
The new Pip-Boy app is free, and with it you can do all sorts of things to help or assist you in the game, and essentially have your smartphone or tablet that the app is installed on act as your Pip-Boy interface for the game menus. You can also use it as a standalone app just on your device without the game on console or PC, as there are a handful of mini-games for you to play from the series called holotape games, such as Atomic Command.
Using the app while you’re actually playing Fallout 4, you’ll be able to stare at your phone screen with a quick glance any time you need to check out your stats, instead of entering the menu any time you need to do so. This keeps your monitor or tv screen on what you’re doing instead of having to rifle through game menus even if it’s to fine tune things like your attributes. You can even access your in-game data while out and about as the app keeps a log of all your specific character information. Aside from keeping you up to date on your stats, it also serves as a map of the wasteland in case you need a reminder of where you are. If you plan on playing Fallout 4, this is a must have app to enhance the experience. Especially so if you have the actual Pip-Boy to wear while doing it.
