While HTC launched the One A9 smartphone last month, the One M9, which was unveiled back in March this year, continues to be the company’s flagship. While the phone may not have sold by the truckloads, it does pack in some solid hardware and happens to be a fairly decent performer, although a lot of would-be buyers are probably spooked by the very mention of the Snapdragon 810 SoC that resides under the hood of the Taiwanese vendor’s current flagship handset. Either way, the phone was originally launched by HTC with Android 5.0 Lollipop, overlaid with Sense 7 UI. Now however, if HTC ROM developer @LlabTooFer is to be believed, the company is getting ready to roll out the much-awaited Android Marshmallow update to the device, although, there’s no ETA given for the same.
The update however, might be just round the corner for HTC’s current flagship, as the aforementioned leakster has now posted on Twitter, a bunch of screenshots from a smartphone, said to be the One M9 running Marshmallow. While quite a few premium devices from a number of manufacturers have already started receiving their Marshmallow updates, many others are still waiting to receive the new software, so it must be music to the ears of One M9 users that the company is working towards the roll out of Google’s latest and greatest flavor of Android for their handset. While there’s no word as yet on which features will come as part of the update, some native Marshmallow features like an app permissions manager, native support for fingerprint scanner, Google Now on Tap, an all-new app drawer and of course, more intuitive volume controls are expected to come with the new software, seeing as these are some of the new but important features on Marshmallow, as compared to Lollipop.
The One M9 as mentioned already, was announced in March this year and is the current flagship smartphone from HTC. The device features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display and comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor and carries a non-removable Li-Po 2,840 mAh battery. Imaging options on the device include a 20-megapixel primary camera and a 4-megapixel ‘UltraPixel’ selfie-cam. This device supports Cat.9 LTE connectivity and ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, as mentioned already.
