Huawei has had a great year thus far. This China-based company has not only released a number of really compelling devices thus far, but they’ve also managed to sell quite a few of them. Huawei’s income has grown immensely compared to last year, and they’re currently the third-placed smartphone OEM in the world as far as market share is concerned. That being said, the last big release by this company occurred back at IFA in September when they announced the Mate S handset. After that announcement, everyone was wondering if Huawei plans to release the Mate 8 at all, and thanks to the interview of the company’s CEO from the other day, we now know that is bound to happen.
Well, we know far more than that at this point actually. Huawei has decided to tease the arrival of the Mate 8 via their official Weibo (Chinese social network) page. If you take a look at the image above, you’ll notice a teaser which directly confirms the arrival of the Mate 8 on November 26th. The huge letter ‘8’ would be plenty enough to confirm it for us, but the image also reads ‘Mate 8’. This will be the company’s new flagship, and you can expect its display to be at least 5.7-inches in size, which was the size of its predecessor, the Ascend Mate7 which arrived in September last year.
We have seen a ton of leaks when it comes to this phablet, so let’s try to put the pieces of the puzzle together, shall we. The Mate 8 will be made out of metal, most probably aluminum, that much is certain. Huawei also plans to unveil their HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC on November 5th, and the Mate 8 will probably be fueled by that processor. The Kirin 950 will be a 64-bit octa-core chip clocked at 2.4GHz, and a Mali-T880 GPU will be a part of the package as well, along with an i7 co-processor. The Mate 8 will ship with a 1080p or QHD display (‘Force Touch’ is also rumored), and Huawei will probably release both the 3 and 4GB RAM variants of this device accompanied with 32 and 64GB of internal storage. The 20-megapixel shooter will be available on the back, and an 8-megapixel snapper will be located up front. That’s pretty much it, all we can do at this point is wait for November 26th and see what happens until then.
