Metal is not typically a material that consumers see from LG Electronics in their smartphones and tablets, but LG is switching things up with the Zero, a smartphone built with an all-metal body design that they initially launched in South Korea back in September. LG announces that starting this week, they’ll begin the global rollout for the phone as it launches in Taiwan, and follow up the Taiwanese release with a launch of the Zero in other “key markets” in Latin America, Asia, and Europe in the weeks ahead, although LG hasn’t yet mentioned exact dates or a western release in the United States.
The LG Zero comes equipped with a 5-inch HD In-Cell Touch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 at 294 pixels per inch. It’s main claim to fame though is of course the all-metal body that’s front and center, which is built from solid aluminum and comes in two different colors including silver, and gold. The Zero also features LG’s iconic back button placement for the volume rocker and the power key, which are situated underneath the 13MP rear-facing camera. LG states that the Zero also comes equipped with the same camera experience that users are familiar with on the G series devices so they should expect to be able to take some great pictures with this device. LG specifically notes that many of the camera features included in the Zero are found on the LG G4.
On the front of the phone LG has fitted an 8MP camera for selfies and video chat, so even front images should be quite good. The device is powered by a quad-core processor which clocks in at 1.2GHz, with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, although like virtually every other LG smartphone it can also expand on that 16GB via a microSD card for the consumers that need it. The Zero will come running Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, and it has a 2050mAh battery on the inside, and it has network support for LTE and HSPA+, while also carrying connectivity support for WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.1. LG hasn’t announced any pricing or availability details, but they do mention that particular information will be announced by the carriers in the local regions where the phone will be sold once the phone launches.
