Quite a few of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy ‘A’ series mid-range handsets have been leaked of late. While the first generation Galaxy ‘A’ devices were launched earlier this year, the second-generation Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 are expected to be unveiled by Samsung at some stage in the coming weeks and months. Earlier leaks about the devices have even suggested that they’ll be named Galaxy A3X, A5X and A7X respectively, although none of that has been confirmed as yet. There’s also a Galaxy A9 that’s said to be in works, which will be highest spec’d smartphone in the lineup, as and when it comes along. That particular device only recently showed up on AnTuTu after having been listed on Samsung’s official Iranian site, disclosing quite a lot about the handset.
While some of the hardware specs of the upcoming second-gen Galaxy ‘A’ series smartphones were already revealed in earlier leaks, only the second-gen A3 and the A5 had thus far passed through the FCC. Now, it’s the turn of the next-gen Galaxy A7, which has now popped up on the website of the US communications regulator along expected lines. The listing reveals that multiple versions of the device have been certified, including model numbers SM-7100, SM-A710S, SM-A710K and SM-A710L. While the listing on FCC’s official website doesn’t really provide too many new details regarding the upcoming device over and above what’s already known, it does carry some info on the battery, which will apparently be a fairly healthy 3,300 mAh unit, as opposed to the 2,600 mAh rated unit present on the current Galaxy A7.
The 2016 Galaxy A7 had earlier been certified by TENAA, and the resultant listing on the the Chinese regulator’s website revealed that it will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display panel. The smartphone is also expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 chipset, which comes with a 64-bit octa-core CPU, along with the Adreno 405 GPU. The device will reportedly ship with 3 GB of RAM, which is an improvement over the current generation A7 that comes with only 2 GB. As for internal storage however, the listing on TENAA indicated the phone will still ship with only 16 GB, which however, can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 128 GB in capacity. The rear camera is said to be a 13-megapixel unit. All of which indicates a fairly regular mid-ranger as of late 2015 / early 2016.
