Even though the Nokia brand seems to have fallen into oblivion, the company is still developing technology and in fact, it has released a few devices after Microsoft bought their mobile division. The company was very popular because of their innovative mobile products some time ago, and they weren’t afraid to experiment with different form factors. More recently, when they opted to use Windows Phone as the operating system for their smartphones, their colorful designs were praised all over and they brought some innovations into the camera department. As we all know, one of the major issues of that platform is the lack of apps, so some users would actually like for Nokia to make a comeback using the Android operating system.
This year, Nokia released a tablet running Android and it was very well received. It featured an aluminum chassis and the company’s own launcher created for this platform. Shortly after, we started hearing rumors about a possible Nokia branded phone running Android called Nokia C1 and there have been some renders and alleged live pictures of the device. Nokia had to partner with other companies to make the tablet so as not to violate the agreement with Microsoft, but even with a similar strategy, they would be able to release smartphones next year. Now, an alleged render of a new Nokia phone has surfaced showing the device running both Android and Windows Phone. Microsoft has a patent that would allow users to choose different operating systems on a single device, but so far, there has been no word on if it will ever be used.
The render was sent by a first-time tipster, so its credibility is very questionable, but the user stated that there would be two versions of the phone, one for each OS. The design shown on the render resembles the one of the Nokia N1 tablet and it’s quite simplistic, it features narrow bezels on the side of the screen and there’s no earpiece visible, and only the front-facing camera can be seen in the top bezel. The back of the phone shows 4 different color options and the camera module with the LED flash, but the frame surrounding the phone is the same color for all of them, so it’s possible that the back is made of glass and the frame is made out of metal. The button placement is such that there seems to be a power button on the top right of the phone and the volume buttons on the right side, but those are located towards the corner. There also seems to be a headphone jack on the top left of the phone and since there are no visible speakers, those would be on the bottom of the device along with a charging port. The render looks like it could be an early stage version of the design, as no glare on the surfaces can be seen, and let’s face it, anyone could have made it, but perhaps Nokia is indeed working on such a device.
