While Samsung’s skin hasn’t been formally called “Touchwiz” since the Galaxy S3, we still all know it as Touchwiz. And There was a time when their proprietary skin was pretty bad. Samsung has since cleaned it up a bit, especially in 2015, and gotten rid of a lot of features that they found users were not using. But Touchwiz still has its issues, most notably the RAM management issues that are on this year’s crop of flagships from the South Korean manufacturer. Even the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are having issues with RAM management, even though they both feature 4GB of RAM. However, there’s a new rumor floating around that Google is supposedly helping out Samsung in optimizing Touchwiz. That’s one crazy rumor.
This rumor is coming out of Samsung Viet, and states that Google is looking to work with Samsung to optimize Touchwiz. Google likely wants to be sure that the king of Android has a fast skin on top of Android, if they aren’t going to stick with vanilla Android, which is likely Google’s first choice. They would also be helping the company overcome some bugs that would come in with Touchwiz.
Now you may remember a couple years ago when Google got into Samsung’s operating system, and basically told the company to stop duplicating Google’s services. And since then have dropped a lot of their competing services with Google’s own. Including moving over to giving Galaxy Gifts in Google Play. Now this was just a rumor, and we likely will never know if this was indeed true. But it certainly seems like it is. It’s likely that with this rumor about Google looking to optimize Touchwiz, that we’ll never know if it is a true rumor or not. But if the Galaxy S7 comes without any RAM management issues, then it’ll likely be true.
The big question here is, why would Google want to help Samsung? Well a few reasons. Samsung still accounts for more than half of all Android smartphones or devices in general, sold. Thus, when there are issues with Touchwiz, most users see it as a problem with Android and not Touchwiz. A bit unfair, but that’s the way things go down these days.
