As you probably already know, Xiaomi has introduced two new devices yesterday. The company has held an event in China and announced the Redmi Note 3 smartphone, along with the Mi Pad 2 tablet. Both of these devices are quite affordable and made out of metal, and the Redmi Note 3 is the first Xiaomi-branded smartphone to sport a fingerprint scanner. That being said, some people were hoping Xiaomi will unveil their Mi 5 flagship at the event as well, but that obviously did not happen. So, when will it be announced? Well, a new report surfaced in China, let’s see what it says.
According to the newly leaked info, the Mi 5 might arrive in the first quarter of next year. Now, we’ve seen various rumors when it comes to the release date of this smartphone, and the Q1 2016 timeframe now seems plausible. Xiaomi has entitled their press conference yesterday as the ‘Grand Finale’, which basically suggests they don’t intend to make big announcements until the end of this year. The Snapdragon 820 SoC will be available to manufacturers in Q1 2016, so if Xiaomi intends to use that SoC, they wouldn’t be able to release the phone before Q1 2016 anyhow. In addition to all this, a report surfaced saying that the company is also preparing a Helio X20-powered smartphone, though not necessarily the Xiaomi Mi 5. So, is Xiaomi planning to release two variants of Mi 5 powered by different SoCs maybe? Or is the Mi 5 going to be powered by the Snapdragon 820, and the Mi 5 Plus which was rumored a while back with the Helio X10? Well, we basically don’t have enough info to make such conclusions, but it seems more and more likely the Mi 5 will not be announced this year.
What about the Mi 5’s specifications? Well, according to a number of leaks thus far, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship will be made out of metal, and will sport a 5.2-5.5” display. The phone will ship with 3/4GB of RAM and more than one internal storage variant. The Snapdragon 820 or Helio X10 will fuel this handset, and ‘Force Touch’ display is also a possibility at the moment. The 20.7-megapixel shooter is rumored to be available on the back of the device, and you can expect the phone’s display to sport a QHD resolution.
