One of the great thing about Nexus devices is the open nature of the handset, making it possible to customize and personalize things on another level not seen by many other devices. Aside from getting extremely fast updates from Google when new software versions are ready for primetime, they also get plenty of support from the development community for things like ROM’s and all kinds of other custom and aftermarket firmware, kernels and the like. The only issue so far with the two latest Nexus smartphones from Google was that the phones didn’t have decryption support from TWRP, which happens to be one of the most popular custom recovery options.
That of course, changed the other day when Team Win (the people behind TWRP) enabled decryption for the Nexus 6P. Unfortunately, at the time it left out any Nexus 5X owners who were hoping for the same treatment. having said that, it didn’t take too long before Team Win was able to get decryption supported on the Nexus 5X for its version of TWRP as well, having stated that they hoped to get it up and ready in the next few days. As one would have it, the support has just shown up today making it possible to use TWRP and decrypt the phone for further working with stock software customization.
If you have either device, you can grab the needed software downloads from TWRP’s website. Simply scroll down the devices page to find the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P and then grab the correct downloads. Now that both phones have decryption support, those who are interested and willing to put in the little bit of legwork required can move through the process to decrypt their devices if they don’t want the encryption on. Since Google sets encryption on by default, those who want the ability to switch it on and off with more simplicity and at their leisure will need this version of software from TWRP. It was only a couple of days ago that the Nexus 5X hadn’t gotten support, which makes this a pretty quick turn around, and good news for Nexus 5X owners who enjoy tinkering with such things.
