Xiaomi has been China’s number one smartphone OEM for quite some now, and according to IHS Technology, they still are. Anyhow, Xiaomi is selling a lot of smartphones a year, but the company’s reach is somewhat limited. Xiaomi is selling their smartphones in parts of Asia only, and has reached Brazil earlier this year, though they’re selling only one device over there. The company’s co-founder did hint that the company will reach the US soon, and it seems like they’ll reach Africa before they come to the US, read on.
This China-based smartphone OEM will start selling the Redmi 2 and Mi 4 handsets in Africa in mid-November, and the company has partnered up with Mobiles in Africa in order to pull this off. The Redmi 2 will reportedly cost the equivalent of $160, while the Mi 4 will be priced at $320 in Africa. That’s pretty much all the info we have at the moment, but you can expect all details to be revealed really soon, so stay tuned for that.
The Redmi 2 was announced earlier this year and it sports a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core SoC along with an Adreno 306 GPU. The 8-megapixel camera is located on the back of this phone, and a 2-megapixel snapper can be found up front. The 2,200mAh battery is also a part of this package, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 OS available on top of Google’s OS.
The Mi 4, on the other hand, is Xiaomi’s 2014 flagship. This device features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD display, 3GB of RAM and 16 or 64GB of non-expandable native storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core SoC is available on the inside, and a non-removable 3,080mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 13-megapixel snapper is located on the back of the Mi 4 along with an LED flash, and an 8-megapixel snapper is available up front. This handset ships with Android 4.4.3 KitKat out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS on top. That’s pretty much it, we’ll let you know as soon as more info arrives.
