Xiaomi has still not announced their smartphone flagship for 2015, the Xiaomi Mi 5. Most people were expecting this phone to launch back in July considering its predecessor arrived in July 2014, but that didn’t happen. Rumors say that Xiaomi is waiting for the Snapdragon 820 SoC to become available before they announce the Mi 5, and that SoC was launched a couple of days ago in New York. Interesting enough, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has surfaced on Geekbench earlier today, click here if you’d like to check that out.
That being said, a new rumor has surfaced in China. According to that rumor, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will sport a fingerprint scanner, just like the Redmi Note 2 Pro, which was the first smartphone this company has announced to sport such a sensor. Interesting enough, this rumor says the fingerprint scanner won’t be located on the back of the phone, like it was one the Redmi Note 2 Pro, but up front. The tipster also says that the Mi 5 will use Qualcomm’s Ultrasound 3D fingerprint scanning technology, which is something we’ve seen leaked quite a few times thus far. The tipster has also added that Xiaomi intends to release more devices which will sport rear-facing fingerprint scanner, but those will be mostly mid-rangers.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is said to sport a 5.2-5.5” QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 3 or 4GB of RAM and various internal storage options. The device will reportedly going to be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, and a 21-megapixel shooter has been rumored as well. The phone will almost certainly going to be made out of metal, and 4G LTE connectivity will also be a part of this package, of course. You can expect Xiaomi’s MIUI skin to be installed on top of Android, no matter which version of it Xiaomi decides to include in this handset.
Keep in mind that some rumors have been saying that the Mi 5 might sport a significantly bigger display, but considering Xiaomi has the Mi Note phablet line, the Mi 5’s display probably won’t be bigger than 5.5-inches. There you have it, stay tuned for additional info, we’ll keep you posted.
