In the world of PC computing, there aren’t many options for those looking to use the Android platform, but Jide, the company behind the Remix Ultra tablet, set out to change that with their Remix Mini PC that they’re touting as the first true Android PC. Much like the tablet which was Jide’s first project, the Remix Mini hit up Kickstarter to receive funding from backers to get things going, and thanks to the success of the Remix Ultra it had no trouble getting to where it needed to be. For those that weren’t part of the funding campaign but were still interested in grabbing the Remix Mini, Jide now has them for sale up on Amazon at the low cost of $69.99 for the 2GB RAM model.
Since this is meant to be a PC in a compact package, the unit is quite small and portable making it easy to tote around in a bag or even a pocket, and again since it’s a PC you can expect connection ports for HDMI to hook up to a monitor, two USB ports for connecting a mouse and keyboard, and ethernet for hooking up to the internet. You’ll also find the power jack and an audio port on back alongside the microSD card slot for the expandable storage, of which the Remix Mini can support up to 128GB should the internal space not be enough. If you’re someone who doesn’t need much space though and rely heavily on the cloud, the Remix Mini is still equipped with 16GB of onboard storage. to keep you going.
The Remix Mini is based on Android, but it actually runs Jide’s own homegrown version of the firmware called Remix OS, and the Mini sports the 2.0 version which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. This particular model for sale on Amazon is also powered by a quad-core processor that’s clocked at 1.2GHz and it carries 2GB of RAM for all your tasks and needs. While this is technically Android, Remix OS is meant to deliver Android in a more PC-like experience, so things will certainly look and feel more like a computer than they do a mobile operating system. While the Remix Mini does have connections for ethernet and USB keyboard and mouse, it also supports Bluetooth and WiFi so you can keep mostly everything connected wirelessly if you like.
