Asus ZenFone Zoom Unveiled; 4GB Of RAM & 4X Optical Zoom Camera

Asus has managed to get people’s attention back in January during CES when they announced a couple of ZenFone 2 devices. The most powerful of those handsets actually sported 4GB of RAM, and was the first such smartphone to hit the market. On top of all that, the ZenFone 2 didn’t cost that much at all, and it’s still quite a solid option if you’re not looking to spend all that much money on a handset. That being said, Asus has released a number of additional ZenFone devices throughout the year, and a new one has landed today in China, read on.

The company has announced the long-rumored Asus ZenFone Zoom. This smartphone has been certified by TENAA in November, and the company’s CEO has mentioned the device briefly quite recently as well. Anyhow, the ZenFone Zoom features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. This smartphone is fueled by Intel’s Atom Z3590 quad-core SoC along with a PowerVR G6430 GPU for graphics. The 13-megapixel OIS shooter (Panasonic’s SmartFSI sensor, 10-element lens, PixelMaster image processing) is located on the back of this phone, and it offers a 3x optical and 12x digital zoom. The physical camera button is also a part of this package, while you’ll find a 3,000mAh battery unit on the inside of this device.

Asus talked quite a bit about this phone’s camera during the press event, which was to be expected considering the camera is ZenFone Zoom’s main feature. It will be really interesting to see what can this handset do in terms of image taking and processing, but it sounds quite capable on paper. Panasonic’s SmartFSI sensor definitely managed to surprise us, and it should be capable of taking some great images, but we’ll see. Now, in terms of pricing, this handset will be available in two versions, the 64 and 128GB ones (internal storage). The former will be available for 2,799 Yuan ($433), while the latter will set you back 3,199 Yuan ($495) should you choose to buy it. Asus did not share an exact release date for this smartphone, but you can expect it to be available quite soon.
