According to a post by the UK arm of Asus on microblogging site Twitter, the second-generation Android Wear smartwatch from the Taiwanese technology company is now on sale at Currys PC World for £149.99. The tweet, from Asus UK’s official Twitter account, says, “You guys asked – we delivered! (Before Xmas!!) Get your ZenWatch 2 from @curryspcworld now”, and includes a link to the ZenWatch 2 product page on the official Currys PC World website, according to which, the device will be available both on the website as well as in brick and mortar stores of the retailer. With the promise of timely delivery ahead of the festive season, the smartwatch certainly will have its admirers, seeing as the company’s ZenFone 2 has gone on to become one of the most-loved devices in its category this year.
While there are two different versions of the ZenWatch 2 officially announced by Asus, the device currently up for sale at Currys is the larger one with model number WI501Q. Taking a quick glance at the tech specs of that particular version of the smartwatch, the device is made out of stainless steel, and comes with an IP67 certification rating that guarantees dust and water resistance. The device features a 1.63-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a pixel resolution of 320 x 320, giving it a pixel density of 278 dpi. The smartwatch is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 chipset, which comes with an integrated quad-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 1.2 GHz, along with an Adreno 305 GPU. The gadget has 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, and runs on Android Wear, as mentioned already. The ZenWatch 2 comes with a non-removable Lithium Ion battery that’s rated at 400 mAh, and comes in three different colors – Gunmetal, Silver and Rose Gold.
Earlier this month, Asus had released a video on its official YouTube account, teasing the impending launch of the device in the UK, and now, it seems as though the company has followed through with its promise. One thing to note is that the device is currently a Currys exclusive in the UK, and there’s no word as to when that might change. The Asus ZenWatch 2 is the follow-up to the company’s first-generation ZenWatch, which was introduced by the Taipei, Taiwan-based electronics and PC components maker in September 2014. This time around, the device was announced back at Computex 2015, and was unveiled officially at the IFA trade show in Berlin, in early September.
