Gionee is an India-based company which has introduced two rather interesting devices earlier this year, the Elife E8 and Marathon M5. The Elife E8 is Gionee’s flagship phablet, while the Marathon M5 can be considered their mid-range offering. This handset is very interesting though, not only does it sport a really sleek design, but it also packs in a 6,020mAh battery on the inside (2 x 3,010mAh). This handset has been announced in India quite recently, and it seems like Gionee is planning to release yet another Marathon M5 variant soon, read on.
This Chinese smartphone OEM has released a teaser on their official Weibo (Chinese social network) account, and it seems like they will launch the Marathon M5 Plus on December 21st. Now, the company doesn’t mention anything about this handset’s specifications or anything of the sort, unfortunately. The Marathon M5 Plus will either be a bigger handset (a phablet), or will sport a higher-end specifications than the Marathon M5 (perhaps even both), we’ll have to wait and see. One thing is for sure though, this smartphone will also pack in at least a 6,000mAh battery on the inside, just like its predecessor.
The Gionee Marathon M5 sports a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD card). This handset is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6735 64-bit quad-core SoC running at 1.3GHz, and a 6,020mAh battery (2 x 3,010mAh) is located on the inside. The 13-megapixel snapper can be found on the back of this phone, and a 5-megapixel shooter is available up front. This is a dual-SIM handset, and Android 5.1 Lollipop comes preinstalled here with Gionee’s Amigo 3.1 UI on top of it. The Marathon M5 also offers a reverse charging function, which is not all that surprising considering it has a beastly battery on the inside. That’s pretty much it, the Marathon M5 Plus will quite probably also be a mid-range smartphone, but it might sport a somewhat higher-end specs than the M5 (MT6753 perhaps?). Either way, we’ll report back as soon as additional info surfaces, and it probably will before Gionee announces this handset, stay tuned.
