Android apps come and go. But once an app becomes famous, it won’t be disappearing from the Play Store anytime soon. If there’s an app that has gained the success it has reached so far, it would definitely be the note-taking app called Evernote. To further expand its network of apps, they were able to produce more standalone apps that could perform specific tasks. Among these apps include Evernote Clearly, Skitch, and Evernote for Pebble.
The app developer behind these names, however, delivered some sad news earlier today. As announced on their blog, they will be ending support for these standalone apps so they could further improve user experience on their core app, Evernote. With the announcement, Skitch for Windows, Windows Touch, Android, and iOS will no longer be available; as well as Evernote for Pebble and Evernote Clearly. Skitch for Mac, however, will continue to be offered and supported.
Officially, these apps will no longer be given updates beginning today. They will also be removed from their corresponding stores on January 22. This means that they will no longer be available for download on this day. So if you’re still interested in getting these apps, you still have time to download them. However, you have to remember that they will no longer receive support or further updates. Since Evernote is not switching off these apps, you’ll have to be wary about making external changes as these could break the apps’ functionality.
If you are using any of these apps and you still want to continue using them, Evernote states that they have incorporated their much loved features onto their core applications. An almost similar annotation functionality from Skitch can be found on Evernote apps for both Windows and iOS. At the same time, the article simplification feature from Clearly has been included on Web Clipper. As for those who use Pebble watches, features similar to that of Evernote can be found on the Powernoter app.
Although support for these apps will no longer be provided, Evernote promises that they have a lot lined up for 2016. One of these plans is to make their core Evernote app into an even better one.
