Huawei Mate 8 Certified By The FCC, U.S. Launch Imminent

Huawei has been one of the most successful Chinese smartphone manufacturers this year. Not only are they fighting with Xiaomi for the top spot in China, but they’ve become the third-largest smartphone manufacturer globally. Huawei has improved quite a lot over the last couple of years in terms of smartphones and related equipment, they’re making really gorgeous looking devices now. Their Huawei Watch is by many people considered to be the best-looking smartwatch currently available, and the company’s Mate 8 and Nexus 6P handsets have also received a lot of praise this year.

That being said, we’re here to talk more about the Mate 8 flagship Huawei has released a couple of weeks ago. This 6-inch phablet will be arriving to the U.S. in January, as Huawei plans to showcase it during CES, and the device has been certified by the FCC quite recently as well. This certification more or less confirms that the device will launch in the States soon, quite probably right after CES. The device which was tested carries the ‘NXT-L09’ number, and FCC tested its Wi-Fi at 5G speeds. The FCC listing, of course, does not include any photos, but this is definitely the Mate 8.

Now, the Mate 8 is currently one of the most powerful handsets out there. This phablet sports a 6-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64/128GB of expandable internal storage. This phablet is powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 950 64-bit octa-core SoC, which is the most powerful SoC currently available out in the market, at least according to benchmarks. This chip will get fierce competition soon when the Exynos 8890, Snapdragon 820 and Helio X20 launch, but it’s topping every benchmarking test at the moment. The Mate 8 is made out of metal, and it sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Its bezels are quite thin, and it doesn’t have any capacitive buttons. The 16-megapixel OIS camera is located on the phones back, and an 8-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on this device with Huawei’s Emotion UI 4.0 installed on top of it. The phablet measures 157.1 x 80.6 x 7.9mm, while it weighs 185 grams. That is more or less it, the device will be showcased during CES, so stay tuned for that.
