Huawei has been, next to Xiaomi, the most successful Chinese smartphone manufacturer this year. The company has released quite a few really intriguing devices, like the Nexus 6P, Mate 8 and the Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch. They’ve also managed to become the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, which means that only Samsung and Apple stand before Huawei now. That being said, Huawei has just announced that they’ve crossed a pretty major milestone which is definitely worth mentioning, read on.
The company has announced on their official Weibo (Chinese social network) page that they’ve crossed the 100 million sold devices in 2015. This is a pretty major deal for the company, not only did they manage to sell quite a few devices more than Xiaomi (who is expected to hit 73 million before the end of the year), but have also joined the very few OEMs who managed to do that. To date, only Samsung and Apple have managed to sell over 100 million smartphones in a single year, Nokia and ZTE have been there, but only with feature phones (well, a part of them were feature phones), not smartphones.
Huawei truly changed up their model this year and have really managed to surprise general public in a way. Not only did they release quite a few really compelling devices, but consumers outside of China actually started recognizing Huawei as a major player in the smartphone game. Their Nexus 6P phablet is, according to many people, Google’s best Nexus device to date, and it definitely gave the company some credibility. Rumors actually say that Huawei might manufacture Google’s 2016 Nexus handset as well, which would be a big deal for this Chinese smartphone OEM. Their Huawei Watch smartwatch, on the other hand, is one of the best-looking smartwatches currently available out there, and is selling rather well despite its rather hefty price tag. That is pretty much it, Huawei will certainly try to keep the momentum in 2016, but it remains to be seen if they’ll be as successful as they were this year, you never know what’s coming in this business.
