Xiaomi Mi 5 has been leaking like crazy lately, ever since the company’s CEO mentioned that he’s been using the device for quite some time now, and that it’s worth the wait’. The Mi 5 has actually leaked in several images lately, we’ve seen the real life image leak, after which the phone’s render surfaced, and soon after that the closeup of the Mi 5’s display appeared as well. The phone is said to arrive in January, the latest leak claims that it will launch on January 20th, but take that info with a grain of salt. That being said, some new info regarding the device’s fingerprint scanner surfaced, read on.
Now, a recent rumor mentioned that Qualcomm’s UltraSonic fingerprint scanner won’t be a part of the Mi 5 after all, and that seems to have been an accurate information. Today’s report actually says that the Mi 5 will use a fingerprint scanner from FPC, and it will be a similar unit as the one Xiaomi used in the Redmi Note 3 which has been announced recently. To be more accurate, we’re looking at the FPC 1035 fingerprint sensor, which is actually really fast and does support a 360-degree scanning. This is not confirmed yet though, so keep that in mind. This fingerprint scanner will be located below the display according to the latest leak, though we’re still not sure Xiaomi is ready to implement a physical home button in their devices, perhaps this will be some sort of a touchpad or something? It is, of course, possible that the recent leak was completely wrong and that the company intends on implementing this sensor on the back of the phone.
According to a number of rumors thus far, the Mi 5 will be made out of metal, and it will sport a 5.2-5.5” QHD (2560 x 1440) display up front. The phone will ship with either 3 or 4GB of RAM, and more than one internal storage variant will be available. The 21-megapixel shooter will probably going to be included in this package, and either a 5 or 8-megapixel camera will be available up front. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC will most probably fuel this smartphone, though the Helio X20 64-bit deca-core SoC from MediaTek has also been mentioned a number of times thus far. That is pretty much it, the Mi 5 is going to be announced soon, most probably January, so stay tuned for additional news.
