Xiaomi Mi 5 has been mentioned quite frequently lately. We’ve seen a number of rumors when it comes to this device, and a couple of leaks as well. Two leaks actually surfaced recently, one of which showed off the alleged device in the flesh, and the other one showed us how thin the bezels will be on this handset. As it’s usually the case when the release date is close, we didn’t have to wait for long in order to see yet another leaked image of this handset, read on.
If you take a look at the provided image, you’ll get to see the alleged Mi 5 handset which surfaced on Weibo (Chinese social network). Now, the interesting thing here, is the fact that this phone sports a physical home button, which is kind of odd considering this is Xiaomi we’re talking about. This China-based company always includes three capacitive buttons below the display, never a physical home button. Well, Xiaomi might aim to change that this time around considering they want to include a fingerprint scanner in there, though the obvious choice would be to put the scanner on the back of the device. Now, keep in mind that this is just a leak of the device, nothing official, so take it with a grain of salt, as always.
Another interesting piece of information comes from the same source actually, and it claims that the phone will be unveiled on January 21st, which seems plausible. Xiaomi has been waiting for Qualcomm to release their Snapdragon 820 SoC for quite some time now, and considering that might happen in January, Xiaomi is probably already ready to release this phone. The company’s CEO has already mentioned that he has been using the device for quite some time now, so it might be ready for primetime. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to sport a 5.2-5.5” QHD display, 3/4GB of RAM and various internal storage options. The 21-megapixel shooter will probably be included on the back of this phone, and an 8-megapixel snapper will be available up front. Android Lollipop or Marshmallow will come pre-installed here with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS available on top of it. It is also worth mentioning that the device will be made out of metal, and Qualcomm’s Ultrasound fingerprint scanner has also been mentioned, but that rumor is kind of far fetched.
