Meizu Sold 20 Million Smartphones In 2015, Grew 350% YoY

Meizu is one of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers in the world. This company has increased their profits 540% in the second quarter of this year, compared to Q2 2015, which is staggering. The company has, since then, released a number of really compelling devices, including their MX5 and PRO 5 flagships. We knew that Meizu sold quite a few devices this year, and now we finally have some official numbers to share with you, read on.

This China-based smartphone OEM has revealed that they’ve sold 20 million smartphones this year, which actually represents a great success for Meizu. This actually represents a huge boost in Meizu’s sales compared to last year when they sold only 4 million smartphones, well, 4.4 million to be exact. Meizu has actually managed to sell 350% more handsets this year, which is truly impressive. Now, interesting enough, Meizu has similar expectations for 2016, the company’s CEO, Li Nan, has said that the company is aiming to sell 25 million handsets in 2016, and that they’ll be controlling sales closely.

Now, this might seem surprising to some of you, one would think Meizu will aim higher than 25 million for 2016 given how much they improved since last year, but you have to keep in mind that Meizu has its limitations. This is not exactly an international company, even though they have big plans, their manufacturing capabilities and placement of their products are still lacking in a way. Meizu is aiming to improve next year, but they’re taking the smart approach, and are going to try to control their growth without pushing themselves too hard.

Meizu’s mid-range M2, M1 Note and M2 Note handsets have been selling the best this year, but other devices like the MX5 and PRO 5 have been in high demand as well. Meizu makes really well-built and well-specced devices, and they are usually extremely affordable, which makes them really compelling to people. Judging by how much Meizu has improved over the last year or two, one would say this company is doing a really great job. That might be the case, but Meizu still has a long way to go in order to catch up with the likes of Xiaomi and Huawei, two top smartphone manufacturer in China at the moment.
