Moto X 2016 Could Feature A Heat Pipe-Based Cooling System

Motorola has always found a way to distinguish the Moto X from the rest of the smartphones. Ever since the first model was launched, it featured a design which might not have been the slimmest, but it was meant to be very comfortable, plus it featured more customizations than any other phone. The software has also been very important for this lineup as Motorola doesn’t customize how Android looks, but the company includes some apps to make the overall experience a little better. While newer models have integrated some metallic elements on its construction, Motorola may be planning to make a new phone almost entirely out of aluminum. This could be seen in a leaked image which supposedly depicts the Moto X that will be released next year.

It remains to be seen if the new Moto X will be available in the Moto Maker customizing tool, perhaps Motorola will offer the aluminum phone in a wide range of colors. Anyway, now we got a chance to see the internal part of the alleged chassis of the phone. The overall shape certainly matches what we saw in the other leak, and the location of the camera cut off and speaker grille also seem to be into position. What’s interesting is that Motorola seems to be using a heat pipe to keep the temperature on the aluminum a little lower. The company seemed to be quite careful and didn’t integrate the Snapdragon 810 on any of their handsets on the account of the overheating issue, and while Qualcomm has denied rumors of overheating issues on the Snapdragon 820, it seems that manufacturers are looking for some ways to keep the processor running cool.

Sony used a similar cooling system in the Xperia Z5 Premium which is powered by the Snapdragon 810 and it seemed to work out fine. There are some rumors suggesting that Samsung could also use a heat pipe in the Galaxy S7, which might be powered by the Snapdragon 820 or even a customized overclocked version of the SoC. It doesn’t seem very likely that Motorola will use a custom version of the Snapdrgon 820, but perhaps the phone will be powered by this processor and the company wants to avoid any controversy regarding the phone’s temperature. Let’s remember that aluminum is good at conducting heat, so phones with similar constructions might get quite hot.
