Some reports from earlier in the day seemed to suggest that the 2014 flagship smartphone from LG Electronics is receiving the Marshmallow update in Poland. GSM Arena quoted a tweet ostensibly from LG Poland executive, Mr. Jaroslaw Bukowski, to claim that the Marshmallow update for the LG G3 has gone live in the country. Now, however, Mr. Bukowski is apparently denying ever having sent out the tweet in the first place. According to his latest pinned tweet, “Yes, LG G3 will be updated to Marshmallow soon, in Poland. No, I don’t know the date. No, I don’t know when it’s coming to other countries”. Pretty comprehensive, one might say. Going by latest developments, it won’t be unfair to say that earlier reports regarding the Marshmallow update rolling out to the G3 was nothing but a rumor that has been addressed once and for all through an official source.
The LG G3, which was introduced by the South Korean consumer electronics company early last year, originally shipped with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, with LG’s proprietary Optimus UI laid on top. The device has since received an update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, but now, owners of the LG G3 will be hoping that the latest major version of Android reaches the device sooner rather than later, especially after this apparent false alarm. It is worth remembering that just last Monday, the G Stylo mid-ranger got an update from Sprint in the US, and earlier this month, the company’s latest flagship handset, the G4, was reported to have received Android 6.0 from the same carrier. So going by all of that, it can only be a matter of time before the much-awaited update is rolled out to the device in question. It just that there’s no ETA for that as yet.
Coming to the LG G3, the device is the 2014 flagship of the South Korean company, as mentioned already. It features a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display that’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset that comes with an embedded quad-core CPU clocked at 2.5 GHz, while the graphics duties are taken care of by an Adreno 330 GPU. The handset comes with a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera, both of which are capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 frames per second.
