You’ve heard the many rumors that Unpacked 2016 is slated for January, as many seem to think that Samsung is going to announce the next Galaxy S a bit early this year, and do it in January. However, it appears that information is untrue, as we’re looking at February 20th for the Unpacked 2016 event. This is according to Luchkov, who is a Ukrainian blogger, who also shared the correct information for the Galaxy S5 Unpacked event back in 2014. So there’s a pretty good reason to believe him, this time around. As he does have some credibility.
The date of February 20th seems pretty legit, considering Mobile World Congress is slated for February 22nd through the 25th. And generally the two days before the show are for press events. Last year, we had Samsung, HTC, LG, Huawei and a few others, the day before the actual show opened up. So with that said, it’s more than likely going to happen in Barcelona, Spain this year at Mobile World Congress. And that’s been the tradition for Samsung with their Galaxy S unveiling, normally happening at MWC with their Galaxy Note unveiling happening at IFA (although that didn’t happen this year).
Now this date is not set in stone, and could change. We likely won’t have any confirmation from Samsung until around the beginning of February, as that’s normally when these invitations are sent out. Of course, we’ll be there live to see exactly what Samsung has in store for us this time around. The Galaxy S7 is shaping up to be a pretty spectacular device, and we are excited to see what Samsung has done to the Galaxy S7 over its predecessor the Galaxy S6. Rumor has it that the microSD card slot will make a return, but the removable battery will not. Samsung will also likely continue to innovate their new design language which debuted with the Galaxy S6 this year.
Samsung Unpacked is always a big event for Samsung, as they only do two of these per year. And we’re expecting two devices at this event again this year, and two different sizes at that.
