Smartwatches are increasingly becoming a sought after commodity. Their initial update was slow going and even still, from the Android-related perspective, sales are not anywhere near where a manufacturer would probably want them to be and certainly lacking in comparison to other mobile devices. However, that is an aspect which could change and especially as new and more varied watches land on the market. Speaking of which, one of the most recent Android Wear smartwatch to arrive is also the most expensive Android Wear device to hit the market. This is of course, the TAG Heuer Connected watch and one which comes with a $1,500 price tag.
A price which is easily three to four times that of any other Android Wear smartwatch. With such a high price, you may be wondering just how many smartwatches do TAG Heuer expect to sell? Well, if the latest reports coming in or any sort of guide, it seems demand is certainly outstripping supply and likely, TAG Heuer’s expectations. According to a report from Bloomberg today, TAG Heuer has now confirmed that they are having to ramp up production of the Connected watch from 1,200 units per week to 2,000 just to satisfy demand.
In fact, the report goes on to further state that it is likely online sales for the TAG Heuer Connected watch will have to be suspended to at least May or June of next year, to ensure that physical stores have the watch in stock and able to fulfill orders. Which again, as the report states, is currently around the 100,000 order marker. To further emphasis that the initial reception received by the Connected watch is excelling TAG Heuer’s expectations, CEO, Jean-Claude Biver, is also said to have now confirmed that TAG Heuer will expand the collection and offer a variety of styles, materials and so on. Although, Biver also notes that these will not arrive until very late in 2016 or early 2017, “Considering the success of this single and unique watch, we will develop a collection made out of different varieties, executions and materials at the end of next year or beginning of 2017.”
