Xiaomi Mi 5 rumors have been coming more or less on a daily basis for the last week or so. This handset was expected to be announced back in July, but the company has opted to wait until the Snapdragon 820 SoC becomes available. The company’s CEO has recently said that the company wants to provide the best user experience with the launch of the Mi 5, so they’re not in the hurry to launch it. Despite that statement, we expect the device to be announced in January next year, but we’ll see. Anyhow, a new Mi 5 rumor has surfaced, let’s see what’s it all about, shall we.
Following Lei Jun’s statement, the Chief Engineer of the China Telecom Guangzhou Research Institute has shared some info about the Mi 5 as well. He said that the Mi 5 will be priced somewhere between 2,000 ($308) and 3,000 Yuan ($363), which is a somewhat higher price point than previous rumors reported. A number of previous rumors stated that the device will cost 1,999 Yuan, but it seems like it might be a bit more expensive than that. Mr. Guifeng says that the base model of the device might cost 2,499 Yuan ($385), and the higher-end variant could be priced around 3,000 Yuan. He has also said that Xiaomi will look to improve its image as a premium brand in 2016, which might be another reason why the company is taking its time with the Mi 5.
Now, Xiaomi might be looking to improve its image in a way, but we do hope that the company won’t increase prices of their upcoming devices. Xiaomi is well-known for offering really solid devices which are priced really low compared to the competition, and we do hope that they won’t make any changes in that regard. Now, as already mentioned, Xiaomi’s CEO has said yesterday that they’re in no hurry to launch the Mi 5, and the January release is still possible, but latest rumors say that the device might not even launch in the first half of the year, which is hard to believe.
