Xiaomi has released a ton of devices this year, and yet, their most anticipated handset has still not been announced by the company. Interesting enough, it won’t be announced before the end of this year at all. The Xiaomi Mi 4 was Xiaomi’s 2014 flagship, and its successor was expected to launch back in July. Xiaomi has opted to delay the launch because they’re waiting for the Snapdragon 820 to become available, and that won’t happen before next month. That being said, the company’s CEO has said that he’s been using the Mi 5 for quite a while now, and that the phone is worth the wait. He has also added that the company is in no rush to release the phone, and want to optimize it to the fullest before they release it.
We’ve seen a number of Mi 5 rumors and leaks thus far, and the device itself has leaked several times in the last couple of weeks, including the phone’s alleged patent documents. All of those leaks suggested that the device will sport a rather thin physical home button, which seemed odd at first considering Xiaomi prefers capacitive buttons, but considering the number of leaks we’ve seen, that option becomes quite probable. A new set of Xiaomi Mi 5 images surfaced, and this time around you get to see Mi 5 render in various color options, including White, Black, Grey and Pink-colored devices. According to previous leaks, the phone will sport a 5.2-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64 of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC will fuel this smartphone, and a 3,600mAh non-removable battery will also be a part of the package. Speaking of battery, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging tech will also be at your disposal, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow is said to ship out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS on top of it. The 32GB (3GB of RAM) variant of the device is rumored to cost 1,999 Yuan ($308), and the 64GB (4GB of RAM) model will allegedly set you back 2,299 Yuan ($354) should you opt to buy it in China.
