Xiaomi Unveils Redmi Note Prime In India, Priced At $127

Xiaomi has announced two devices quite recently, the Redmi Note 3 and Mi Pad 2. The former is the company’s very capable mid-ranger made out of metal, and the latter is Xiaomi’s 2nd-gen Android-powered tablet. That being said, the company is also expected to announce their Mi 5 flagship in the coming weeks, quite probably in January. Well, Xiaomi has been teasing yet another devices launch lately, they’ve been touting the arrival of a ‘Prime’ devices, and the phone has just been launched in India, read on.

Many people thought that Xiaomi intends to release the Redmi Note 2 Prime handset, but a recent report denied that. Well, the report was right, Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi Note Prime instead. This is actually the second Xiaomi-branded smartphone to be manufactured in Sri City in India, as a result of Xiaomi’s partnership with Foxconn. The Redmi Note Prime features a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card). Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core SoC fuels this smartphone along with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics. The 13-megapixel shooter is located on the back of this smartphone, and a 5-megapixel snapper can be found up front. The 3,100mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it’s removable. This is a dual-SIM handset which offers 4G LTE connectivity, and it comes with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed with Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 available on top of it. The device measures 154 x 78.7 x 9.45mm, while it weighs 185 grams.

Now, the Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime can be considered an entry-level handset. The phone does sport 2GB of RAM and its specs are rather solid, but considering it has an entry-level SoC, a 720p display and ships out with Android 4.4 KitKat, it’s safe to say this is an entry-level offering by Xiaomi, and such is its price as well. The Redmi Note Prime comes in White color options and costs Rs. 8,499 ($127). The Redmi Note Prime will be available for purchase exclusively through Amazon India and Mi.com, the sale will commence at 10 AM tomorrow (India time).
