Chrome OS as an operating system saw a great year in 2015, with an increased level of adoption at both the manufacturer level as well as the consumer level. This resulted in the last twelve months being some of the most successful in the platform’s existence. As a result and for those manufacturers who have invested more heavily into Chrome OS, they are now starting to see that adoption really come to fruition and not just in the end-user consumer market, but also the enterprise and education sectors as well.
Acer is one of the companies who have really been focused on Chrome OS and as well as their abundance of Chromebooks, they have also looked to introduce a number of less-traditional Chrome OS running devices, including the likes of their all-in-one option, the Acer Chromebase which was announced back at the start of April of last year. Well, following on from the original Acer Chromebase, Acer has today announced the introduction of a newer version of their Chromebase, dubbed the Acer Chromebase 24.
One of the immediate differences between this one and the previous version is that the latest Chromebase comes equipped with a larger 23.8-inch display which makes use of a 1920 x 1080 resolution. According to Acer, this sized screen makes the Chromebase 24 the largest Chromebase display on the market. In addition, it does seem the Chromebase 24 will be a device which is also aimed towards the business market as well as the consumer one, as this is a device which is primed for video conferencing and makes use of four digital microphones, a tilting display and a HD webcam. Another major difference is that this latest version comes equipped with an Intel processor which is in contrast to the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor which came equipped in the previous version. In fact, according to Acer, this again marks a first as this makes the Chromebase 24 the first Intel powered Chromebase to hit the market. Both the processor and memory on offer will be dependent on which variant is chosen, as the Chromebase will be available in a number of options with the memory choices ranging up to 8GB.
Unfortunately though, Acer has yet to reveal firm details on the Intel range of processors. Likewise, the company has also yet to reveal any firm details on pricing or availability for the Acer Chromebase 24. Although, they have stated that this is a device which will be making its way to North America.
