BLU Announces Octa-Core-Powered Vivo XL & Vivo 5 Smartphones

CES is always more about a wide range of consumer electronics than mobile devices, but that doesn’t mean there is never any smartphone-related devices to check out. BLU products today at CES 2016 has announced two new smartphones, the Vivo XL and the Vivo 5, which they plan to launch later on this year both coming with an octa-core processor and displays using the SuperAMOLED panel technology. Each phone is “elegantly designed” and “the best that BLU has ever put out in this price range” according to BLU. Both phones also follow along with every other model they have produced and come unlocked (like the BLU Life One X)so they’re capable of being used with any GSM network in the Americas. What’s more, is that each device is affordable coming in at under $200.

The BLU Vivo XL is the less expensive of the two and considered the lower-end model, as it’ll cost $149.99 and comes equipped with a 5.5-inch HD SuperAMOLED display. On the inside, the BLU Vivo XL has 2GB of RAM alongside a MediaTek MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and a MALI-T720 GPU for the graphics. It comes with 16GB of internal memory but will also support expandable storage via a microSD card if needed. On the back, it sports a 13MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and 2.0mm aperture, and over on the front it carries a 5MP camera for selfies and video chat. The device will come running Android 5.1 Lollipop but will be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, is powered by a 3150mAh battery, and comes in four different colors including Liquid Gold, Chrome Silver, Rose Gold, and Midnight Blue.

For $50 more consumers will be able to pick up the BLU Vivo 5 which costs $199, coming equipped with 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB and it comes powered by the exact same CPU/GPU configuration from MediaTek. For storage, it comes with 32GB, and can also expand on that through the microSD card. The Vivo 5 is equipped with a 5.5-inch HD SuperAMOLED display and features the same 13MP and 5MP camera setup as the Vivo XL. The Vivo 5 will run Android 5.1 Lollipop initially, but will upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow as well. It’s powered by the exact same battery as the Vivo XL and both phones use USB Type-C for the charging port. The Vivo 5 will come in White Silver and Solid Gold. BLU states that the Vivo XL is set for a launch this month and will be on sale at Amazon’s website, while the Vivo 5 will be available in February and will be sold on Amazon as well.
