Huawei Launches Honor 5X Mid-Ranger In India At $199

Huawei has had a stellar 2015. So much so that the company is now the largest smartphone manufacturer in China. However, the company doesn’t seem to be in the mood to sit on its laurels, seeing as it is going right ahead with new launches in an effort to consolidate its position as one of the largest Android OEMs in the world. The Honor sub-brand from the company has played a crucial part in the success of Huawei, both in China and abroad. Now, along expected lines, the company has launched its affordable mid-ranger, the Honor 5X, in the third largest smartphone market in the world – India, at a price of Rs. 12,999 ($195).

The device was unveiled officially during the CES 2016 trade show held at Las Vegas, Nevada, earlier this month, and was put up for pre-order on Newegg and Amazon in the US at a price of $199. The phone will reportedly start shipping to customers in the US from the 31st of this month, and the company is expected to roll out the device in more markets over the next few weeks and months. As for the Indian launch of the Honor 5X, Huawei had already announced earlier that the smartphone will be launched in the country on the 28th of this month, so this launch is definitely along expected lines, as mentioned earlier. The phone replaces the Honor 4X, which was released last year by the Chinese telecom equipment and consumer electronics major, and has since reportedly sold over 10 million units worldwide.

Taking a look at some of the hardware specs on the Honor 5X, the smartphone features a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p display and the Indian version is powered by Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor. The US-bound model, however, has the Snapdragon 615 under the hood, for reasons as yet undisclosed by the Chinese electronics giant. The device also comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. As for the imaging options, the Honor 5X sports a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel selfie-shooter. The handset comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed, supports LTE connectivity and carries a 3,000 mAh battery. The device also comes with a fingerprint scanner, and comes with a metallic build.
