Inbox by Gmail Update Makes Search Even Faster

Inbox by Gmail’s search engine has always been pretty good. Being able to search for things like upcoming flights, hotel reservations and what not, have been pretty simple and card-based. Instead of needing to rifle through emails, the information is right there for you. On Tuesday, the Gmail team announced a few changes to the search component of Inbox by Gmail. One of those is bringing cards to everything you search for. They call it “Answers at a glance”. Now you’re able to search for that Comcast bill you need to pay, and a card will show up showing you the due date as well as the amount due. And of course, there is also a button to view the bill (or the email in this case). Other examples here include searching for a frequent flyer number. Let’s face it, none of us know our frequent flyer number by heart, but we all want to rake in those miles, right?

Below the card that Google thinks shows you the information you were looking for, you’ll find “Top Results”. As it has always been, these are the top 3 emails that are the most relevant to what you searched for. Followed by that you’ll see all of the emails in your Inbox that correlate to the term in which you searched for in Inbox by Gmail. Not a huge change to the UI for search, but it should make things a bit easier to find exactly what you are looking for, in less time. Or at least that is the goal here with this update for Inbox by Gmail. Searching is also faster, not just finding what you want, but the service actually looking for what you searched for is now faster in this update.

The update for Inbox by Gmail is live on the Google Play Store. It’s rolling out in a staged rollout – as is usual with Google app updates. This means you should be seeing the update pretty soon. But as for now, you’ll have to wait until the update is available for you. At this time, there is no APK available for Inbox by Gmail.
