Samsung flagship phones are usually among the most anticipated devices every year, sometimes they failed to impress, but last year’s models certainly raised the bar for the company in terms of design and build quality of the hardware. The new phones will probably be unveiled a little sooner before MWC 2016 kicks off on February 22. There have been several rumors about the phones that could be unveiled in the same event. Most rumors point at a hardware design that would closely resemble the one Samsung used in their flagship devices last year, based on glass in the front and back put together by a metallic frame.
At first, it was believed that the company could introduce four Galaxy S7 models, two flat-screened versions in different sizes and two Galaxy S7 Edge phones with curved screens on their sides with two different size choices as well. More recent information suggested that the Galaxy S7 would be the same size as its predecessor with a 5.1-inch screen, while the Galaxy S7 Edge would sport a larger 5.5-inch display with curved edges on the side. In terms of the technical specs of the phones, there would be variants powered by either a Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 processor with 4 GB of RAM. It has been rumored that both phones would integrate larger batteries and there’s a chance that the phones will have a Micro SD card slot and protection against water and dust.
Famous leakster @evleaks has found an image suggesting that there will potentially be three phones unveiled at the event: The Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and Galaxy S7 Edge+. The image shows the name of each phone with a similar font as the one used recently on Samsung’s products. The background of the image looks like a concrete surface (or some users are seeing water droplets), possibly hinting towards an improved durability of these phones. The size of the screens of these phones remain a mystery, it is possible that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will have a 5.1-inch display while the Galaxy S7 Edge+ will have a 5.7-inch display, as this was the case for the Galaxy S6 lineup. If the Galaxy S7 Edge ends up having a 5.5-inch display, the Galaxy S7 Edge+ would probably sport an even larger display, possibly around 6 inches, since a 0.2-inch difference between displays wouldn’t make much sense.
