As some of you might know, Google Play Services are blocked in China. Google has left the Chinese market quite a while ago, and even though their services are not officially available in that Asian country, the Google Play Store is quite probably the most sideloaded app in the country. Google Play Store is amongst the top 10 used Android app stores in China, and it basically does not ship on the device which are sold there. That being said, there have been some rumors and reports claiming that Google is getting ready to return to China, and some of that info comes from a somewhat reliable source.
That being said, the President of Lenovo Mobile, Chen Xudong, got interviewed in China, and has more or less confirmed that Google Play Services are coming back to China. The company’s President got interviewed by Sina Technology, a Chinese tech site, and has said that Google is eager to re-enter the Chinese smartphone market. There are many reasons why this might be, but one of the main reasons is the fact Chinese smartphone market is the largest market in the world, and users certainly want for Google to come back. During his interview, he basically said ‘Google Services will re-enter the Chinese smartphone market this year’, and you can’t ask for a more straightforward answer. Mr. Xudong has also said that this will be the year of fingerprint scanners, and that many handsets will include such sensors. We’ve already seen this trend rise in 2015, and it seems like we’ll see even more such devices this year.
That’s pretty much it, the company’s President confirmed that Google Play Services will be back, but he did not share any details as to when we might expect this to happen. We do know that it will happen this year, at the very least. It will be interesting to see at what capacity will Google Play Services going to be available in China, will Google be forced to limit some of their software, or not? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, all we can do at this point is speculate. As soon as Google releases more info regarding all this, we’ll let you know, so stay tuned.
