Letv is one of those comparatively smaller smartphone brands from China that not many outside the People’s Republic would have heard of. However, the company is going from strength to strength in its home country, and is now even looking to expand beyond its borders, and set up shop in the lucrative Indian market. If reports are to be believed, the company is expected to launch multiple devices in the country later this month. Launching its products in more markets means the company will have to start coming up with the best quality, highest spec’d products at the best possible prices if it has to compete with established manufacturers. With a view towards doing just that, Letv is now looking to introduce multiple high-end smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC, which is the latest top-shelf mobile chipset from the San Diego, California-based semiconductor chipmaker, Qualcomm Inc.
Letv introduced the Le Max Pro at the CES 2016 trade show last week, which is the very first Snapdragon 820-powered handset to have been publicly demoed by any manufacturer. The company, however, doesn’t plan to sit on its laurels and is looking to bring in a number of other devices powered by the same chip over the next several months, if reports in the media are to be believed. By virtue of being the very first Snapdragon 820-powered smartphone, the Le Max Pro will also be the very first commercial device to incorporate the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that’s being marketed by Qualcomm as the ‘Snapdragon Sense ID’. Letv is also going to be the first to commercially roll out devices with support for the 802.1 1ad multi-band wireless standard, which allows for speeds of up to 4.6 Gigabits per second.
Speaking on the company’s decision to incorporate the Snapdragon 820 in its premium, flagship smartphones, Mr. Jun Liang, chief operating officer at Letv, said that the company has “already established itself as one of the world’s top innovators and our decision to include the Snapdragon 820 processor in these new devices demonstrates our commitment to creating and delivering the best technology available to our customers”. As for Mr. Alex Katouzian, senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, he too seemed pleased at the company’s collaboration with Letv. According to him, “We are very pleased that Letv is first to bring compelling and advanced smartphones to consumers that are powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor and feature Snapdragon Sense ID fingerprint technology”.
