It’s almost that time. Time for a new LG G series smartphone. Typically we get it about every 10 months. With the first one coming in September, and the latest in the beginning of April. LG has already sent out press invites to their press event at Mobile World Congress for the end of February. Which we’re expecting the company to announce the LG G5. And that means the rumor mill is churning. Now we have another render of what the phone looks like. Now unlike other renders of what people hope the phone to look like, this is from someone who has seen and used the G5. However, this should still be treated as a leak, and taken with a grain of salt.
Looking at the picture above, we can see one very noticeable thing. No more back buttons. That’s something LG has been accustom to since the LG G2 back in 2013. Many didn’t like the idea at first, but it’s a fantastic idea, and helps make the bezels smaller, while still making the phone nice and comfortable in the hand. On the back we have a different camera module. It’s likely that the oval there is going to be made of glass – similar to the Nexus 6P – and that the rest is going to be aluminum. Since we have already heard that the device is going to be all aluminum. Then we have what appears to be a fingerprint sensor below the camera. If you look at the bottom, it looks like that it does indeed slide out. As we’ve seen from other renders and leaks in recent weeks.
What’s interesting here is that it seems like there’s no power button. If you look at all of the angles on this render, you’ll see there is a button on the left side, which looks like a volume rocker. Nothing on the right side. On the top we have what looks like an IR Blaster, microphone and headphone jack, with the bottom having the speaker, USB Type-C port and another microphone. This is pretty interesting, as it looks like LG is going to want users to stick to the double-tap on the screen to turn the display on, or use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. We’ll have to see if this is true, on February 21st at their press event in Barcelona.
