CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is in full swing and by now we are starting to see the dust settle for all of the new tech advancements we can look forward to seeing this year. Today was especially great for anyone who loves shopping from home. MasterCard has unveiled a brand new app dubbed ‘Groceries by MasterCard’, that allows users to interact with their Samsung Smart Fridge and order groceries directly from it, all the while sitting in the comfort of your home, or kitchen. Having been integrated for the first time ever, MasterCard and Samsung’s app helps consumers order fresh produce and other needed grocery items directly shipped by FreshDirect and ShopRite. The apps integrations allow for grocery lists to be built, managed and modified all within the smart fridges interface. Because it’s connected via online this allows for consumers to directly interact with it even when they are not at home. Since the app will be built in Samsung’s Smart Fridge before launch, this will allow users to shop with FreshDirect and ShopRite who have over 250 stores across the Northeast, making them the leading and largest grocers in the country.
Afer items are added to the cart it will need to be approved with a 4 digit security passcode which allows for complete control over household purchases and any changes that would otherwise be made accidently by others or younger family members. Items can then be paid via any major U.S issued debit or credit cards, though MasterCard would prefer that you use their standard issued MasterCard. And since there are no third party vendor services involved, this makes for excelled service. With new features like recipes and video integration to be added in the future, MasterCard believes in its app service to excel family fun nights while teaching the kids how to make meals all from the fridges screen.
John Herrington, Senior Vice President, and General Manager of Home Appliances of Samsung Electronics America says, “Just as Family Hub changes the way we interact with our fridge, the new Groceries app will change how consumers shop.” As the year 2016 progresses MasterCard will add additional grocers with the help of MyWebGrocer, which provides e-commerce for over 130 grocers across the globe giving consumers plenty of grocery outlets to choose from. ShopRite is excited about the partnership with Groceries by MasterCard, stating how glad they are to make shopping for goods easier for consumers giving them a convenient outlet for all their kitchen necessities. The Groceries by MasterCard app along with the Samsung Family Hub Smart Fridge will be available in May of this year across the U.S.
