Sprint has been running a promo for a little bit now, where customers from T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T can come on over to Sprint and get their rate plan cut in half. Now, T-Mobile’s flagship prepaid brand, MetroPCS, is offering something pretty similar. In that they are cutting up to 50% off rate plans for those that jump ship from Sprint. They are also throwing in a free smartphone.
Those looking to switch, you will need to port your number over from Sprint, and you’ll get 2GB of 4G LTE data for two lines (that’s each, not shared data) for just $50/month. That includes unlimited talk and text, and once you hit that 2GB limit, you’ll be throttled to 2G speeds. And this all starts on Thursday, January 21st. So Sprint users will be able to walk into a MetroPCS store and switch over pretty easily, and save some cash as well.
“For anyone who’s been stuck or is regretting a recent switch to Sprint, this is a lifeline. You can now get a bigger and faster network- based on hundreds of thousands of crowdsourced tests – for up to half the cost. Oh, and we’re throwing in a free, new LTE smartphone on top. What’s not to love?” said Tom Keys, president of MetroPCS.
Speaking of that free smartphone. MetroPCS is offering up the LG Leon LTE, Kyocera Hydro WAVE, Samsung Core Prime and the LG K7. It’s important to remind everyone that it will be an instant rebate if you switch over one or two lines. However if you are switching more than two lines, it’ll be a $50 mail-in rebate. Which can take up to 6 weeks to get your money back. Not the best choices for smartphones here, but not bad either. MetroPCS also has a ton of other smartphones available in store right now, that you can choose from, in case you don’t like any of these “free” ones.
With MetroPCS you also get their Data Maximizer, which optimizes data over their network so that you can stretch that data plan even further than before. As well as Music Unlimited which allows you to stream music from a variety of sources, without it hitting your data cap as well.
