If you’re looking for a durable smartphone on T-Mobile or MetroPCS, well Kyocera has one for you, in the Hydro WAVE. The device is IPX5 and IPX7 certified, and is expected to survive a trip in the pool. It can be in water for up to 30 minutes, without having any damage. Kyocera also has had the Hydro WAVE certified for IP5X dustproof and Military Standard 810G certification. Basically that means that this is one tough smartphone.
Specs wise, the Hydro WAVE is sporting a modest 5-inch display, a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with a gigabyte of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot so you can expand the storage up to 128GB. Kyocera has packed in a 2300mAh battery as well as Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE and WiFi Calling. There’s also Android 5.1 Lollipop on board. For those wondering about band 12 or 700MHz, compatibility, it’s there. It’s important to remember that every smartphone T-Mobile carries from now on will have support for band 12.
“The Hydro WAVE not only offers the display size and features of more expensive devices, but also gives users the peace of mind that comes with such a durable phone,” said Chuck Becher, vice president and general manager of sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications. “Water damage and dropped phones regularly top the list of causes of smartphone failures. Hydro WAVE protects against those, while providing a worry-free experience for users.”
Kyocera’s Hydro WAVE will be available today at T-Mobile stores for $149.99 or 24 months of $6.25/month, and it’ll be heading to MetroPCS stores next week, July 27th. You can pick it up on Prepaid or Postpaid. Prepaid it’ll be $189.99. It’s a pretty decent looking smartphone from Kyocera. Normally their phones aren’t the best looking, but they can certainly take a beating. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t have the Sapphire glass like the Kyocera Brigadier for Verizon did. But it’s still a pretty tough device. And perfect for those that might drop their phone often, or even those that are just tough on their phones whether that’s just natural or due to your career.
