Microsoft’s Garage Project has put out a handful of applications for Android users, and the latest is a relaunch of Mimicker Alarm, a simple yet fun way to wake up in the mornings to start your daily routine through the use of interactive games and customization along with standard alarm features, while also utilizing Microsoft’s Project Oxford machine learning APIs that play a role in the three games included with the app, centered around emotion, computer vision, and speech. Microsoft understands that during some mornings it may be more difficult than others to wake up, which is why they’ve given users a way to get the proper motivation and get started with the day with Mimicker.
Using Mimicker is simple and fast and all users have to do is set the different alarms they want including time, alarm tone etc., and then they can choose one of three different games that help them interact and wake up by completing a task. One of the games included is called Tongue Twister and requires users to repeat a phrase that may seem simple enough but will task the user with having to focus to repeat everything correctly.
The second game is called express yourself which will present users with an emotion on screen, and then the user must take a selfie that best matches up with that emotion. After the selfie is taken users are even given the opportunity to share the picture through various means like social media or a text message. The last and final game is called color capture, and the task to complete here is to find something that best matches the color displayed on screen and take a picture of it. For example, Mimicker could ask the user to find something green and the user could take a picture of a plant. Microsoft notes that this game in particular can pose a challenge for users, as they might have to actually get out of bed to find something that matches the displayed color. Mimicker is now available on Google Play for download and can be picked up for free.
