Samsung Smart Switch is a PC and Mac software that allows users to easily transfer data to their Galaxy device. Users can also install the Smart Switch app to transfer their files from a smartphone or tablet to a Galaxy device wirelessly. Users can transfer nearly any data including contacts, calendar, text messages, photos, music, videos, call logs, memos, alarms, Wi-Fi settings and wallpapers from most devices. A vast array of phones is supported including those running on operating systems like Android, iOS and Blackberry OS. Additionally, the desktop client can be used to update the software of Galaxy devices.
The company has updated the Smart Switch software for desktop computers and the big news is that the changelog includes support for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the most recent version of the Android operating system. The update also includes some bug fixes, stability improvements and performance optimizations, as it is typical from any software update. Most users won’t be able to notice any changes in this version, but it might indicate that Samsung is getting ready to release Android 6.0 to their devices. Samsung has been quite secretive with their plans for this particular update, the company hasn’t even officially confirmed which of their devices are getting updated. The only information we have, so far, is because some alleged official documentation got leaked, not only mentioning which of the devices will get updated, but also when might that happen.
Some Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices have been updated to Marshmallow as part of a Beta test in some regions, so we already know all of the changes that Samsung made to its TouchWiz interface. We recently reported that according to a leaked document, the update has already been approved by Samsung, and the update to Smart Switch certainly seems to confirm that the moment when users get to update their devices is getting much closer. It might be released for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge first, although the document mentioned that the first devices to be updated would be the more recent Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. Either way, these four phones would surely be among the first ones to receive Marshmallow.
