Microsoft is working hard on making their apps more useful, especially now that have been making apps for other platforms like Android. Their communication app Skype is one of their most used ones, so this is an app which is seeing very regular and constant updating with new features and improvements. Skype is already available in many platforms including PCs, mobile devices and web browsers. Users can make voice and video calls from this service, as well text, leave video messages and share files or images. Skype has been focusing on productivity as well, and it can also make collaborations work seamlessly, as the service allows groups to get instant messages, video calls and share files. There’s also a dedicated Skype for Business app, for those who need more security, better Outlook integration and larger group sharing. Now, Microsoft has announced that they will update Skype for Android with new features to be even more productive.
The first new feature makes it easier to arrange calls on Skype, while users can already schedule Skype calls using Outlook, with the updated app they will be able to schedule calls from Skype and they will be added to their calendar. To do so, just tap on the person you want to call in the future, tap on the menu on the upper right and select “Schedule a Call”. You’ll be able to create an event using Outlook or your favorite calendar app and then you might send an invite to the involved contacts.
The second feature that is now integrated in Skype for Android simplifies the way users open Microsoft Office documents on the app. Users will get to open Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets in one on one chats and in group chats easier than ever. When they receive one of these files, they just need to tap on the icon within Skype and the file will automatically open in the corresponding Office app with no extra steps needed. If users don’t have those apps already installed, they will be prompted with instructions on how to download and install them. The update will install automatically, but users can check for the updated app at the Play Store.
