Back in July of 2014, Songza was acquired by Google for an undisclosed sum. In October of that same year, Google began integrating Songza on into Google Play Music. Creating curated playlists for different times of days, different moods and much more. Since then, everyone has been loving the integration between Songza and Google Play Music. In December of 2015, Google announced that Songza would officially close its doors on January 31st, 2016. Which so happens to be tomorrow.
Just as a reminder, the Songza app will no longer work as of tomorrow. The app has been pushing users over to Google Play Music for the last few months, seeing as Songza has been integrated with Google Play Music for quite some time now. Google Play Music is a great streaming service to use. When you subscribe to Google Play Music for $9.99/month, or $14.99/month for families, you also get YouTube Red which gives you offline playback for YouTube as well as ad-free YouTube. And who doesn’t love ad-free YouTube. Google Play Music also gets new music each and every Friday, aside from exclusives that go to other streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Google Play Music is also pre-installed on every Android smartphone that has Google services, so it’s already there (although you can disable it if you wish). Google offers a free version of Play Music as well, which allows you to stream radio stations curated by humans, which is part of the Songza integration into the Google Play Music service.
If you still have some Songza playlists you wish to export to Google Play Music, you’ll need to do that today, or they’ll be gone forever. It’s quite simple to export these playlists to Google Play Music as well. It’s as easy as a few taps and boom, you’re all done. Songza is a great service, and it’s great to see it in Google Play Music now, especially for those that used Songza religiously until July 2014 when it was bought by Google.
