T-Mobile adds 2.1M Customers in Q4, 8.3M for 2015

T-Mobile just capped off another big year. After adding over 8 million customers in 2014, T-Mobile has done it again in 2015. The company has just released their preliminary earning numbers for the fourth quarter of 2015, and they look pretty darn good. For the quarter, T-Mobile added 2.1 million total net customers. About 1.3 million were branded postpaid net customers, 917,000 branded postpaid phone net customers, and 469,000 branded prepaid net customers. Churn has also dropped down to 1.46%, that’s down 27 basis points compared to the fourth quarter of last year. Now since this is the fourth quarter, we also get some full year highlights, which include 8.3 million total net customer additions for T-Mobile. Breaking that down, we have 4.5 million branded postpaid net customers added, 3.5 million branded postpaid phone net customers, and 1.3 million branded prepaid net customers. With this being the second year of them adding 8 million customers, that puts their average at adding 23,000 new customers each day over the last two years. Not bad at all.

With these numbers, T-Mobile now has 63 million customers, as of December 31st, 2015. T-Mobile is also touting that this was the 11th consecutive quarter that they have added over a million net customers to their network. And making it the third consecutive quarter of adding over 2 million. Giving them a bit of room ahead of Sprint, who dropped to the fourth largest carrier earlier this year. But still quite a ways behind AT&T and Verizon.

On the network side of things, T-Mobile says they hit some big milestones in 2015. The magenta LTE footprint “more than doubled” in 2015. And not covers over 304 million Americans. When it comes to band 12 or the 700MHz A-Block spectrum, T-Mobile has continued to aggressively roll it out across the nation and it’s now live in over 300 markets which cover roughly 185 million people.

These are just the preliminary results from T-Mobile. There shouldn’t be much changes in these numbers compared to what they’ll announce in February at their quarterly earnings call. But they will be sharing more details on how they did, specifically numbers with dollar signs in front of them, will be shared then. Looks like another great year for T-Mobile. We’ll have to see what the other three carriers did in 2015 next month, as earnings start coming in.
