Xiaomi Mi 5 Pops Up On GeekBench With S820 & Android 6.0

The Xiaomi Mi 5 has been one of the most leaked devices in the last couple of months. The company was expected to introduce this smartphone last year, but that didn’t happen. Well, according to the latest info provided by the company’s co-founder, Liwan Jiang, the device will launch next month, and it will be available for purchase one week after the launch event. We’ve also seen some reports that Foxconn is working round the clock to manufacture enough Mi 5 devices for next month’s sales.

That being said, we’ve seen a ton of Mi 5 spec leaks thus far, and the device has just been listed on Geekbench. According to this listing, the Mi 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon quad-core SoC, which points towards the Snapdragon 820, but the company’s exec has already confirmed that fact. The variant of the device benchmarked here actually sports 3GB of RAM, which suggests that we’ll see both 3 and 4GB RAM variants introduced by Xiaomi next month. Android 6.0 Marshmallow has also been mentioned on Geekbench, and on top of which you’ll get Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS, as expected. Now, the phone has scored 1,927 points in the single-core benchmark test, while it was able to reach 5,123 points in the multi-core test. These results are great, and they also point towards the Snapdragon 820 SoC.

That being said, Xiaomi might introduce two somewhat different versions of their flagship next month. According to one of the latest reports we’ve seen, the company will introduce a ‘lower-end’ Mi 5 with a metal frame and glass front and back, which will sport a 5.1-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display and a 2.5D glass on top of its display. The ‘higher-end’ model, however, will ship with an all-metal body, and will feature a 5.1-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display. These variants haven’t been confirmed by the company, so take this info with a grain of salt, as it usually goes with rumors. That’s pretty much it, the Mi 5 will certainly arrive next month, but not before the Chinese New Year, so keep that in mind. We’ll make sure to let you know if any additional rumors / leaks surface before the announcement, stay tuned.
