The Xiaomi Mi 5 has been one of the most leaked handsets of last year, and the trend has continued in this year as well. Xiaomi was expected to announce their new flagship back in July, but the company opted to wait for the Snapdragon 820 to become available, and the Mi 5 still hasn’t been launched. The company’s exec has recently confirmed that the device will arrive next month (not before the Chinese New Year), and that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC. That being said, another Mi 5-related rumor has surfaced, read on.
According to this info, the Mi 5 will actually launch in two variants. One variant will sport a metal frame which will be placed in between two pieces of 2.5D curved glass panels (pictured in the gallery down below, leaked a while back). This handset will ship with a 5.1-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display. The second, more premium variant will feature a metal unibody design and also a 5.1-inch display, but this handset’s display will sport a QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution. This information comes from an industry insider, and we’ll see how accurate it is.
Anyhow, according to previous leaks and rumors, the Mi 5 is also expected to sport 4GB of RAM on the inside, and we also know that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 820 processor. The 16-megapixel shooter is said to be located on the back of this smartphone, and an 8-megapixel snapper will probably going to be available up front. The 3,600mAh battery unit has been mentioned a couple of times now, and it will almost certainly going to be non-removable. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 tech will be a part of this package as well, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow will quite probably come pre-installed on this device with the company’s MIUI 7 OS available on top of it.
That is pretty much everything we know thus far. Xiaomi’s exec said that the phone won’t arrive before the Chinese New Year, so it will launch after February 8th. Judging by the info we have at the moment, the phone will launch in February though, so stay tuned for additional details, we’ll report back soon.
