As you all know by now, Xiaomi is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China. This company has introduced a number of devices last year, but their Mi 5 flagship hasn’t been announced just yet. The company’s co-founder basically confirmed that the phone will ship with Snapdragon 820 and launch in February though, so the wait will soon be over. As we’re waiting for that announcement to happen, Xiaomi seems to be preparing something else to show us, read on.
As it’s usually the case with Xiaomi, they’ve decided to tease their upcoming product a couple of days / weeks before it gets announced. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has been announced a year ago, and it seems like its successor is right around the corner as well. The company has released a new teaser on their official Weibo (Chinese social network) account earlier today, basically confirming that the device is on the way. The company actually shows off the device from its back side, which go hand-in-hand with the recent TENAA certification listing of this device. Now, this teaser confirms that the phone will feature a 5-inch display, and that it will be announced on January 12th, which is only a couple of days away. The Redmi 3 will be made out of metal, and judging by the images, it will sport a metal unibody design.
TENAA’s listing which surfaced last month revealed the phone’s specs, so let’s check out what will Redmi 3 have to offer, shall we. This device will pack in a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. MediaTek’s MT6753, Helio P10 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 616 SoC will fuel this smartphone, considering we know that it will be an octa-core SoC, but we still don’t know which one. The 13-megapixel shooter will be located on the back of this phone, and a 5-megapixel snapper will be available up front. The 4,000mAh battery will be a part of this package as well, and the phone will be 8.5mm thick. This battery unit should provide more than enough battery life to power this smartphone, considering the phone’s SoC and display size / resolution. The Redmi 2 will offer 4G LTE connectivity, and two SIM card slots, while you can expect MIUI 7.1 to come pre-installed here on top of Android. We still don’t know how much will this phone cost, but the expected price is 699 Yuan ($106).
