Amazon Officially Selling Sony's Xperia Z5/Z5 Compact U.S. Models

Sony’s Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact announced and launched late last year have been available in other regions for the last few months, but now Sony has officially launched the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact in the U.S. via Amazon. Normally you would be able to buy these directly from Sony’s own mobile website, but clicking the buy button at the official U.S. Sony store simply leads to Amazon’s listing pages for both devices, so it’s likely Sony just decided to sell the two phones through Amazon instead of selling them directly.

While Sony’s Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact were decent improvements over the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3+, the improvements weren’t vast, although the camera does reportedly put out a better picture than previous Xperia Z flagships thanks to more control over the camera settings. One of the biggest changes that came to the Xperia Z5 family was the inclusion of the fingerprint sensor, as this meant Sony’s flagship smartphone and Compact model could finally be unlocked through a fingerprint sensor like other devices. The fingerprint sensor could also be used for mobile payments (i.e. Android Pay) if the user chose to interact with them. It was later confirmed however that the U.S. versions of both these phones would not be coming with the fingerprint sensor, arguably the biggest new feature.

Sony’s Xperia Z5 comes equipped with a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD display, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor accompanied by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space, although space is expandable up to 200GB via the microSD card slot. The Xperia Z5 is also sporting a 23MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5.1MP front camera. It also has a non-removable 2900mAh battery inside to keep it going, and comes running Android 5.1 Lollipop. As for the Xperia Z5 Compact, it instead comes with a 4.6-inch HD IPS LCD display, it comes with the same cameras on the front and the back, is powered by the same processor, and has the same amount of internal storage at 32GB with expandable storage up to 200GB via the microSD card slot, albeit with 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB. It also comes running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and instead of a 2900mAh battery, it has a slightly smaller 2700mAh battery inside.
