With competition between wireless carriers intensifying in the US, AT&T has now announced a new promotional scheme to attract users from other carriers into its fold. According to an AT&T press release, starting with immediate effect, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint subscribers will get up to $650 per connection in bill credit if and when they choose to switch over to AT&T and buy a new handset on AT&T Next. The amount includes early termination fees as well as any outstanding lease on the existing handset. The offer is already live as of Monday, and can be combined with other promos that are currently being run by the company.
AT&T recently launched a few new promos including a buy one, get one scheme on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. The company is also offering unlimited data to those who subscribe to its DirecTV and U-verse TV services. AT&T’s press release also states that the offer is a limited time one, and will end on the 31st of March. For some reason, the offer is not applicable in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Miami-Dade County. According to a prepared statement released by the President and CEO of AT&T Mobility, Mr. Glenn Lurie, “These offers are some of our best to date. Our $650 credit is a great reward for new customers who switch to AT&T…. There has never been a better time for new and existing AT&T customers to rack up the savings”.
That may well be the case, but AT&T is not the only carrier in the country to be offering financial incentives to wireless subscribers for ditching their current carriers and joining a new one with the promise of better, more financially-viable subscription plans. Last December, Verizon introduced a very similar promo, whereby the nation’s largest carrier started offering financial incentives to the tune of $650 in bill credit to customers of rival carriers. Sprint has its own ‘Cut your Bill in Half’ promo that it runs from time to time, promising to reduce the bill for those who switch over to the carrier from their current service providers. Late last year, T-Mobile started offering a whole year of free Hulu to those who switch to the carrier.
