Virtual reality is constantly hitting the headlines of late and this is a good indication of how important the platform is becoming. This is in spite of virtual reality still not being as accessible as the industry would like. While there are a number of products currently available, they are still too limited, too dependent on select device compatibility or simply, too expensive. That said, there are a number of businesses looking to try and bring the experience to the wider mass market and the latest to offer the opportunity to test out virtual reality is AT&T.
The U.S. carrier has today announced that starting from tomorrow, those interested will be able to test run the virtual reality experience without having to pay anything or invest in any hardware. By partnering with Samsung and Carnival for this event, AT&T has confirmed that 133 of their stores (across 37 states) will be equipped with Samsung Gear VR headsets and will provide the opportunity to those visiting the store to engage with select virtual reality content.
In addition to the virtual reality in-store opportunity, AT&T will also be offering store visitors the chance to win a 7-day cruise while in-store. This particular contest will tie-in with the virtual reality experience, as part of the selected content is the opportunity to experience what it is like to be on a cruise ship deck while at sea. Not to mention, the ability to experience places including Barcelona and Mexico in virtual reality. To top it all off, anyone who does decide to pick up an eligible Samsung device while at a store, will also receive a credit towards a cruise booked with Carnival. Credits are said to range in value between $25 and $100 and the eligible devices include the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5.
